Work Done as Janet C. Campbell, Employee in other Firms - the Big "Stuff"

In other firms, I was an intern at first, and then ran teams of architects on single commercial office building designs and as 1/4 of the team designing a massive Corporate Headquarters Building, amongst other projects.

I list them below, and the firms in which I did them. The first one I ever worked on at the best design firm in the Southeast, Toombs, Amisano & Wells, was and is a Landmark - it's the incredibly modern MARTA Peachtree Center Station - with a 99 foot deep escalator at one end. I was the first woman in 50 years to "stick" at that firm - and the second to ever work for them in an architectural capacity. Talk about good fortune - those wonderful men took me under their wing and taught me so much!

It is to them I give great thanks.

Commercial Work

MARTA Peachtree Center Station, Atlanta, Georgia

Done while working at Toombs, Amisano & Wells, Architect-of-Record

As an Intern: Performed Materials research, including matching 4X8 porcelain wall and floor tiles, finding fossilized black marble, identifying and detailing the 27 shapes of the stainless steel panels on the ceilings, paving patterns in multiple areas, and some of the wall patterns in the upper areas.

Similar materials research was done for the green marble and granites to be selected for

a large insurance company facility in Connecticut.

Southern Company Corporate Headquarters

Done while working at Thompson Ventulett Stainback, Architect-of-Record

Worked on the Programming of the Facility (including Executives and 2500 Engineers for the 5-Southern States Power Company Conglomerate), the conceptual drawings and design of the main atrium, skylights, calculations/shape of light shelves around the perimeter of the building and their affect on the height of the office/partitions, shear glass walls into the limestone waterfalls below, etc. Details above are some that I developed with a nationally-known roofing and waterproofing consultant, and had a team of architects draw up at my direction.

Atlanta University Center Library, Atlanta, Georgia

Done while working at Toombs, Amisano & Wells, Architect-of-Record

Hollywood Center, First Office Building, Hollywood, Florida

Done while working at Thompson Ventulett Stainback, Architect-of-Record

Charged with getting out the construction documents for the first structure in record time, I took interns who were not allowed to be on the boards, put them on the boards, showed them how to draw up all of the drawings, developed all the details for these new draftsmen, and wrote all of the specifications, picking out the materials.

I was also involved in client and consultant communications.

Coquina Shells were used in the precast spandrels, with bush-hammered rope-molded fa├žade, and double insulated green glazing.

Retail Work
